Since 2003, each of the defendant have introduced or delivered for introduction into interstate commerce, received or manufactured medical devices used to perform artificial hip replacement surgery known as the Trident System.The Trident System is an artificial hip replacement device made up of four basic components: an alumina ceramic femoral head (ball), an alumina ceramic insert (socket liner), a metal acetabular shell (socket) and a metal femoral stem (hip stem).

Yolanda Hammarland Seeks Stryker Hip Class Action Lawsuit
Yolanda Hammarlund is a 46 year old female who had bilateral hip replacement surgery in February of 2006 at Scripps Clinic by Dr Kopp. She received a Stryker ceramic on ceramic implant. She had an early dislocation of her left hip that was treated by a closed reduction. She additionally had squeaking of both her hips and feelings of a left loose hip (it feels like it is moving out of position). Her left hip felt unstable and was and is painful. Her right hip felt stable but painful. She had some fluid collection around the left hip, which was aspirated at some point. She had impingement of the left hip. She has required medication for pain. On or about September 16, 2011, Yolanda Hammarlund underwent revision surgery and the defective Stryker device was removed and replaced. During the replacement procedure, metal shavings were found in and around the joint from the defective product.
During the surgery in February of 2006, a Trident System introduced or delivered for introduction into interstate commerce, received or manufactured by the defendants was implanted into the plaintiff including a component known as a Trident Ceramic Acetabular Component bearing catalog number 625-OT-32E, Size E [Case Code 10887303]. This particular device is the subject of at least three adverse event reports with the FDA [MDR report key 2039342 on March 25, 2011; MDR report key 534895 from June 22, 2004 and MDR report key 499777 from December 4, 2003].
The Trident System implanted in plaintiffs hip in February of 2006 was manufactured in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and regulations promulgated pursuant to it.

At the time the Trident System implanted into the plaintiff’s hip in February of 2006 left the control of the defendants and each on the of them, it was unreasonably dangerous due to non-compliance by the defendant with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and the regulations promulgated pursuant to it in one or more of the following ways
a) The Trident System was introduced delivered for introduction into interstate commerce adulterated in violation of 21 U.S.C. Section 331, 351(h); 21 C.F.R. Part 820;
b) The Trident System was adulterated in interstate commerce in violation of 21 U.S.C. Section 331, 351(h); 21 C.F.R. Part 820;
c) The Trident System was received in interstate commerce adulterated and was delivered for pay or otherwise in violation of 21 U.S.C. Section 331, 351(h); 21 C.F.R. Part 820 and/or;
d) The Trident product was adulterated because it was manufactured deviating from the manufacturing specifications approved by the FDA in the defendants’ PMQA application in violation of the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act.
As a direct and proximate result of one or more of these violations, an adulterated Trident Ceramic Acetabular Component bearing catalog number 625-OT-32E, Size E [Case Code 10887303] and an adulterated Trident System was implanted into the plaintiffs hip causing her to be injured and sustain damages including but not limited to an unstable hip, pain suffering disability, loss of a normal life activities, edema, emotional distress, the need for revision surgery.
